ESNNA Code of Conduct (Child Protection Policy)

The ESNNA Code refers to the "Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children and Adolescents against Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism" in Peru. This code is an official initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) to combat the sexual exploitation of minors within the context of international travel and local tourism.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ESNNA CODE

The primary objective of the ESNNA Code is to prevent and eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents within the travel and tourism industry. This is achieved through the strict implementation of ethical and responsible corporate practices by tourism sector companies, as well as by raising awareness among international tourists, travelers, and industry workers.

COMMITMENTS OF THE ESNNA CODE

As part of our dedication to responsible tourism, companies that adopt the ESNNA Code—including Jungle Trips Peru—strictly commit to:

  • Awareness and Training: Training our field staff, transfer agents, and local guides to effectively identify and prevent high-risk situations related to the sexual exploitation of minors in tourism.
  • Customer and Provider Information: Informing clients, travelers, and suppliers about the corporate policies and security measures adopted to combat the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
  • Denial of Services: Refusing to provide accommodation, transportation, guiding, or any other travel services to any individual suspected of or involved in the exploitation of minors.
  • Mandatory Notification: Immediately reporting any suspicion, evidence, or illegal activity regarding the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents to the competent local authorities and law enforcement.
  • Collaboration with Authorities: Cooperating fully with local and national authorities in enforcing and monitoring compliance with child protection regulations in Peruvian tourism.
  • Adoption of Internal Measures: Implementing internal corporate protocols and regulations that reinforce the absolute protection of children's rights within every operational area of the company.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ESNNA CODE

Tourism businesses officially adopting the ESNNA Code must fulfill the following actions:

  1. Sign an official, formal commitment agreement directly with MINCETUR.
  2. Designate a responsible coordinator within the agency to ensure strict, daily compliance with the code.
  3. Actively participate in specialized training programs, workshops, and updates focused on preventing the exploitation of minors.

IMPORTANCE FOR RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

Adopting the ESNNA Code is a fundamental and mandatory step toward promoting responsible, sustainable, and ethical ecotourism in our country. Companies committed to this code not only safeguard minors but also actively contribute to improving the integrity, values, and image of the tourism sector in Peru, building solid trust among international travelers and our local rainforest communities.
